Elon Musk’s Hypocrisy—Hates Fake News but Spreads It

Elon Musk, the Administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency, did the very thing he claims to hate—he used his platform of 200 million people to violate Luigi Mangione’s rights, effectively spreading fake news. Musk built a career on calling out “fake news,” accusing journalists of bias, and labeling mainstream media as corrupt.

So one has to wonder—does he believe billionaires like himself are above the law?

His reckless words suggest a self-centered yes.

On February 17, 2025, Musk ignorantly tweeted:

“They are going way too far. A man was actually murdered by Luigi.”

Luigi Mangione, a suspect in the killing of Brian Thompson, is still awaiting trial. By law, he is innocent until proven guilty. A 26-year-old man is fighting for his life in a system that is supposed to presume his innocence. Yet how can Mangione receive a fair trial when a billionaire with a temporary government position taints his potential jury?

One of the most influential voices in the world convicted an innocent man in a single tweet, and we’re supposed to allow this to pass without accountability?

This isn’t just careless. It’s dangerous.

Elon Musk’s tweet didn’t just spread misinformation—it violated Luigi Mangione’s constitutional rights.

  • Sixth Amendment – Right to a Fair Trial: Musk’s public accusation of murder tainted the jury pool, making it harder for Luigi to receive an impartial trial as guaranteed by the Constitution.

  • Fourteenth Amendment – Right to Due Process: Declaring Luigi guilty before trial denied him the presumption of innocence, a fundamental right ensuring that no one is punished without a fair legal process.

Musk, who claims to fight misinformation, became the very thing he criticizes—spreading a false narrative with real consequences.

Elon Musk’s Hypocrisy on Fake News

Musk has spent years branding himself as a warrior against misinformation. He has:

Yet, when the narrative suits him, he spreads unverified accusations as if they’re fact. What happened to questioning mainstream narratives? What happened to waiting for evidence? What happened to fighting against “fake news”?

The Power of a Billionaire’s Narrative

This isn’t just a tweet—it’s a death sentence in the court of public opinion.

When someone with Musk’s reach makes a claim like this, it shapes reality before the truth even has a chance. It pressures the justice system, influences jurors, and forces the accused to fight against more than just legal charges—they must fight against a billion-dollar PR machine painting them as guilty before trial.

If Musk truly despises misinformation, then he should be the first to hold himself accountable. Instead, he’s proving he’s no different from the media he criticizes—using influence to push a false narrative.

Humanity Rebels Against Hypocrisy

Musk’s followers trust him. They believe he’s different from mainstream media.

But here’s the truth: humanity will always rebel against limitations of any kind—including the limitation of truth by powerful men who think their words are law.

Musk may believe he’s above the system, but justice is supposed to be blind. No amount of tweets should change that. If we truly believe in fairness, we must reject hypocrisy, no matter how rich or famous the source.
